Scent control for me, and this might sound a little strange to a lot of you, depends on where I am hunting. Now, let me explain. The area that I lease has a few working oil wells on it. The deer in this area are very comfortable with having the smells associated with crude oil production in their environment. There are many occasions when I go straight from work to the stand when I'm hunting there since I work at an oil refinery. I smell natural to deer in this area so I don't have to pay as much attention to scent control under these circumstances. This hasn't seemed to hinder my hunting success at all. Now, I have other areas that I would absolutely not hunt after work without showering since there is no oil production in the area.

That's a great point man. It's all about blending in with you surroundings. Also helps you out on time being able to go straight from work. Great point man.

I too work in the oil field, and a lot of the time I wear my steel toe red wings to hunt in. I have had deer all around me and they never really pay much attention to it. I think are comfortable with the grease smell because they are exposed to farm equipment, logging equipment, etc. all the time. Thats my theory anyway

I know a lot of guys who apply that same theory and if you think about it, it actually makes sense. You don't use a cover scent that isn't applicable or native to the area and in essence that is what you're doing by mimicking an oil pump lol

Exactly. I can buy Pine cover scent from my local sporting goods store but there aren't any Pine trees in this area, so I'd scare every deer in the tri-state away if I used it.

Your right Jeremy, it's all about the area your hunting. You have to blend in to that specific habitat to be successful.
