Would skunk be considered a "game" animal? Do people eat it and does theh fur hold any value? Or is it just a nightmare waiting to happen?

They are a Nightmare, but for many different reasons. Skunks like coyotes can decimate a local turkey herd when they find a nest and destroy all the eggs. They are definitely a nuisance animal, and while their fur market value isn’t great, I’m sure like everything, you could find someone who would want it. I for one know several hunting buddies who have had up close encounters of the rancid kind, when a sleepy skunk has come out of hibernation under the Beech tree they were sitting next to while turkey hunting.

Well Hi all, I'm new to this forum. But I think I can give some pretty good firsthand experiences on this one. Considering I AM the hunting buddy who just so happened to be lucky enough to have a sleepy skunk try to cuddle up next to me while turkey hunting. He nuzzled my leg a few times and then decided to move on...I believe that is when I started getting gray hair now that I think about it. I would have shot the sucker had I thought it wouldn't have given my Grandpa a heart attack (who was on the other side of the tree and had no idea what even happened).

So what's my take on this? The surprising thing is if you don't move around or spook them, I don't believe they will spray just for fun. They smell like crap though and I can't imagine skinning the thing out if you ever did want to eat it.

As for me the only good skunk is a dead skunk...preferably from 200 yards with a .223 and not in my radiator.
