Is shooting a crossbow considered cheating in the bow hunting world? I was told it was too much like a gun. ???

No, crossbows are not a form of cheating and there are many instances when they allow hunters who normally couldn’t use a bow to hunt. The rift in the archery community seems to stem from the fact that a crossbow is already cocked and requires less movement then a compound which needs to be drawn and therefore allows for an increased chance of being spotted by your query. For people who state that using a crossbow is cheating, I would ask them if they’re using a modern bow that that has been loaded to the tilt with equipment to ensure the “easiest” best hunt possible. The only hunters who can make the claim that things are getting too easy are the ones still shooting instinctive bows with wooden arrows. Basically, if the laws in your state allow the use of a crossbow it’s fine.

I agree with you all the way. If a crossbow is your weapon of choice so be it. Lets not forget the fact that a muture buck in the 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 year old range is flat out hard to kill. I don't care what you put them down with. When you kill them with a bow comp or cross they have to come in close witch is right where I like em. ;)
