Is there a reason those crocodile hunter on TV can toss their guns in the bottoms of their wet boats and get them a rusted and beat to heck and they still work? Are they using a special gun or anything?

They really aren't using a special gun. In any profession or sport, reliability is the most important feature when using a tool(gun). Cosmetically speaking the surface rust, dings, or scrapes do not matter. Also, the audience has to take into account how and why the hunter is using his gun the way he is. Almost all of their shots are taken close range (1-10ft away). This allows them to disregard the possibility of the rifling becoming rusted or worn down. Since the gun is getting wet, I'd have to imagine that most of them use a bolt action rifle to increase the likelihood that their bullets chamber properly. Finally, the producers never show the hunters cleaning or maintaining their weapons. For the average TV viewer, that might be boring and the ratings for the channel could decrease. ;)
